Black Friday

Hey all.

I just got back from Black Friday shopping and for those of you who know Thom, I just finished reading his entry... and I thought maybe I should post.

So as a general rule of life, I stay home on Black Friday. The sales and the craziness don't appeal to me... I guess maybe I'm kind of spoiled in that I get everything I want anyway for the holidays so why freak out on one day. Usually my mom and I stay home and bake or something.

This year however I got a call from my friend Katie, saying that she had gone out shopping for the family that Journey adopted for the holidays to try and maximize her budget with the sales. [It's a mom and her three daughters who escaped from abuse. They have nothing. Literally. It's absolutely awful.] When Katie said that, I decided that maybe I should go out. I asked my mom and she said she would come with.

Here's what we ended up with:

3 Longsleeve Shirts
3 Fleece Pullovers
3 Christmas Dresses
3 Sets of PJs [longsleeve top and pants]
4 Pairs of Gloves
3 Pairs of Slip On Sneakers
1 Pairs of Boots [Mom]
1 Fleece Sweater [Mom]
1 Black Longsleeve Top [Mom]

The total for everything? 110.75

I honestly don't know how we did it, but I am SO proud. My mom is covering about 30 dollars worth of stuff, and two other girls from Journey are splitting the rest with me. Idk I just feel really.... good.

Dear 2008,

While 2007 was a year full of amazingness that occurred in countries other than the U.S.A., it was an emotional roller coaster which I would be exceedingly overjoyed not to repeat. While I had some of the best moments in my life in 2007, I also, undeniably, had some of my worst. I think that in 2007 I cried more than in any other year, barring those when I was unable to communicate otherwise. 2008, I would really appreciate if you treated me better than 2007 did. I don't think I can take another year like that. No, scratch that, of course I *could* take it, I would just prefer not to. Strongly prefer. I think that it would be wonderful just to have a calm year. A content year, maybe even a somewhat happy year. I also hope that I have made the right decision regarding going abroad again. I think staying stateside was the right move for me, but one can never really tell until afterwards, right? Despite everything that has happened in the past 12+ most recent months... As usual I am of the opinion that "there are no coincidences, only inevitabilities" and as such, I implore 2008 to present both myself and the rest of you with some hopefully pleasing inevitabilities.

To a calm and peaceful 2008, everyone.

You know what's really funny? Some people have to stop claiming themselves as the victim. Because you weren't the victim, you were the predator. Using and abusing people as you saw fit and "not understanding what you did wrong" and only seeing other people as the one being wrong and guess what? Maybe everyone else is not the ones who are wrong! Maybe it's YOU! Even if you dont like being wrong, MAYBE YOU ARE!

This is not just people being assholes! It's Years of bad karma coming back to bite you in the ass! And nothings going change until you try changing for the better! And maybe learning to apologize and own up to things you've done to people that you have hurt and broke their trust.

You can tell your sob stories to everyone you want to! EVERYONE! They'll tell you words of solace, but they don't know the whole story do they? nope only half, only the half that makes you look like you were the one who was wronged. So have fun getting your pitty, because you dont seem to realize that they would be the same way had they lived through 6 years of your "friendship".

So take sometime, reflect about things you've done. It might do you some good to think "oh maybe i should've been nicer." or "maybe i shouldn't have done that." But dont linger on how if affected the past, apply it toward your future relationships so that you'll be nicer, or not have done that.

You can call me a bitch or every other horrible word known in the english language, because god sakes, had i been the third party reading this, I would. And it may seem like i'm hating on you, to you and every person out there, but i'm NOT. I want to help you better yourself, so you can be happier in the future. So you can gain and keep people's trust.

Sure everyone likes themselves, and yes everyone is all good and fine being themselves, but EVERYONE CAN ALWAYS USE SOME ROOM FOR SELF IMPROVEMENT in the attitude or outlook field. So please do yourself, everyone you will know in the future, and even us your old friends, reflect and grow. I don't know about everyone else, but I know i want you to be able to be the happiest. This a serious case of tough love. We can't just always forgive you for everything you've ever done...how will you ever learn?

Hey Guys!

I have a sort of time sensitive problem that I need some help with.

My friend is here visiting from the States and staying in a very small ryokan in Chidori-Cho [off the Ikegami Line in Tokyo] where they speak very VERY limited English.

She lost her wallet the other day, and proceeded to cancel her credit cards, and therefore the card number that she provided the hotel with will no longer function. We can't seem to explain to them that we need to give them only a new card NUMBER and that we don't have the card for them to swipe... and she needs to check out early tomorrow morning! She obviously doesn't want to leave without paying... and my Japanese isn't quite at the level to be able to explain this problem to them and/or understand what they're trying to say back to me.

Help!!!!
